Got a call today from a manager of a commercial building I provided a paint quote Last Year! At first I could not place gentleman's name Dave, but as we spoke, cleaning the cobwebs up there, I recalled. He manages a business that serves the road building community, knowing they've been pretty busy. The owner who lives somewhere else, requested an oil or Alkyd paint for the exterior. Right away, I could tell this owner is up in years, not knowing the painting technology advancements made with Acrylics. Oils or Alkyd paints tend to caulk out and loose sheen much quicker, especially the darker the color it its. Anyway, have persuaded owner to the newer technology, as we could not offer near the warranty for oils as latex. Think this is a done deal, having to go by in the morning to sign the contract. Keep fingers crossed!

It is always good when someone calls from the past that you have given a proposal to or have done work for. I find that we need to educate clients and potential clients, as to the advances in the coatings industry I.e acrylic binders. Some people still believe that oil is the best and they don't understand the differences between oil, alkyd, acrylic latex. They don't always understand that now days a quality latex with 100% acrylic binders will not chalk as much, will retain color better, is easier to apply, and will also fight mold and mildew better. Very true Tom. When a person says oil, I immediately think 65+ years of age. Smile

Nothing wrong with that, as I'm not too far behind. Having stayed in the business much longer than them, they normally approve of the newer painting technology, after speaking to them. Bet same ones don't know about DTM's either. lol

I agree Cal, I get the same image. Just used DTM today on some metal curbs at a banks drive-thru bays, I used SW ProCryl Primer first as needed, good stuff

Great, ProCryl is Verrry Good Stuff! Painting several light poles in a Car Dealership few years ago, still looks good. You pay for what you get, good stuff costs the most, cheaper ones don't last a flip.

One of the most common problems we see would be a paint job gone bad a couple of years after it was completed. Most of these jobs were the lowest quote. Subpar products were used, improper preparation was performed or the painters simply didn't apply the paint under the right conditions.
